Kellogg Senior Manager - Manufacturing in CHENNAI, India

Primary Function

Based on annual business plans, operations strategy, inputs from sales and marketing, market environment, guides and supports in preparation of production plan, monitors and ensures achievement of targeted production volumes, approves deviations and coordinates with other functions for resources, manages and coordinates the functions of production, engineering, projects & maintenance, new product development, management of utilities, administration of plant crew and contract services, crew human resources development and Industrial relations, assures safety and reliability and continuous improvement in the operation of manufacturing facilities.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

§ Manage all Production activities, track against plans and achieve targeted production volume of the right quality within planned costs and as per plan, ensure compliance to all related statutes and apply due diligence in all manufacturing related processes.

§ Manage the production planning function. Plan and implement systems to improve on planning effectiveness to balance competing priorities like optimal inventory management v/s high service levels.

§ Ensure that the operation is run with the highest standards of safety, occupational health and environment protection.

§ Lead the process of continuous food quality improvement. Align with marketing on consumer sensory studies to tweak product improvement.

§ Guide the process and packing staff to achieve the targeted volume of production in the correct product and pack mix as scheduled. Monitor and improve upon product quality through process controls and training.

§ Achieve and strive to continuously improve upon productivity standards in material usage and labor hours. Plan key initiatives to achieve significant improvements in Operational Asset Utilization.

§ Manage and provide participative guidance to the engineering function to ensure good upkeep of all equipment and assets within established standards to assure safeguarding of capital investment.

§ Manage & Guide the maintenance team and drive implementation of initiatives in plant maintenance to ensure reduction in unplanned downtime.

§ Design and drive development of relevant MIS to ensure availability of information for timely decision making. Analyze weekly, monthly, quarterly & annual reports, present insights, trends & recommendations for continuous improvement in operational effectiveness in line with business goals.

§ Develop and maintain an effective Operational Organization to ensure maximum development and utilization of subordinate staff.

§ Conduct performance conversations, set targets, understand expectations, guide & provide feedback on work issues , coach , mentor & train people in order to ensure that people perform at highest levels of performance and as per expectations

§ Guide and provide direction to Manager- Quality & Environment and Manager ( Plant Services) on improvements in environment systems to ensure 100% compliance to local statutes and Kellogg standards.

§ Ensure that Plant Operations meet or exceed applicable local, State and Central laws and regulations to ensure continuity of operation and protect public interest, track changes to laws and regulations, represent organization if required, seek feedback from internal/external legal teams to ensure 100% compliance to the legal and regulatory framework.

§ In association with the Head (Operations) and in line with the approved long range plan, formulate short and long term plans for expansion of plant facilities, modifications and improvements to product developments and other related activities.

§ Plan and drive implementation of approved capital projects and ensure delivery of projects " On Cost , On Time, and on Standards"

§ Maintain highest standards of plant HR system. Work closely with Plant HR Manager and sustain unique HR practices such as Quality circles, Continuous Improvement teams, Multi skilling etc, Ensure maintenance of cordial industrial relations. Work to Design and continually improve upon appraisal methodologies, analyze industry compensation and benefit trends and conduct the annual compensation review exercise for the crew.

§ Advise Head (Operations) on issues pertaining to strengthening and improving manufacturing capability, long range capital plans, development and improvement of plant facilities.

§ Lead the process of Cost Innovation, conduct ideation sessions, benchmark with other Kellogg units and food companies for best practices and identify potential opportunities for continuous improvement.

§ Engage & champion as well as provide support to Head Operation & Director Operations for meeting the training needs of the manufacturing team.

§ Supervises whom- Asst. Production Managers, Exe Production, Production Planner

§ Peer Relationships- Manager Supply Chain, Manager Quality and Environment, Marketing Category Manager, Regional Sales Manager, Financial Controller.

Preferred Education & Experience

§ MBA (Operations)/BE/ B. Tech.

§ 12-14 years of experience in handling Supply Chain Operation.

§ Plant /Manufacturing Experience essential. FMCG / Foods background preferred
