As the Pilot Plant Manager, you will be responsible for all Pilot Plant operations on site to ensure that R&D pilot activities within the facility achieve quality, safety, and delivery targets.
You will be responsible for supporting the R&D Productivity & Network Operations Director in ensuring the necessary procedures, processes, facilities and equipment are in place, together with appropriate technical staff training in order that the function and its facilities continue to meet with the business needs and to appropriate internal and external standards.
This role requires knowledge and experience of production management, team leadership, maintenance project management, EHS management, GMP compliance, and continuous improvement tools, ensuring all appropriate resources are focused on the delivery of the R&D project goals. The role would suit someone with a process or plant operations background having an interest in running product development trials requiring frequent changes to process conditions and equipment set up.
The role is to provide compliance, excellence and innovation to speed the delivery of innovative products to market.
Responsible for all pilot plantoperations by ensuring all products are manufactured in accordance withquality standards and to an agreed schedule.
Managing a team of 4, holdingregular 1-2-1 sessions, team meetings and investing in their development.
Responsible for ensuring all pilotplant operations are carried out in a safe manner and in accordance withcompany policies.
Ensures and maintains safe,compliant, audit ready pilot plants.
Empowers the pilot plant team totake ownership for their work processes and improvement plans, to be fullyautonomous to ensure KPI targets are achieved.
Accountable for ensuring sufficientand flexible work processes are developed in conjunction with R&Dleadership team and then implemented flawlessly throughout pilot plant.
Provides support for the provisionand maintenance of a safe, compliant formulation facility for R&Dactivities.
Procedure management (e.g. SOPs),training strategy and implementation for the pilot plant team
Leads and manages the trainingprogram of pilot plant personnel and the food and packaging designers toensure appropriate skills are available for current and new projects.

Process or plant operations background or background in running pilot plants within the food industry
Basic technical knowledge of food development
Passion for creative product development and industrial experience in the food sector
Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
Show flexibility in the face of changing work demands
Able to develop and apply process understanding in troubleshooting activities
Hold basic IT skills
Show high levels of proactivity and a desire to drive results whilst keeping the consumer at the heart of what we do
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
Based at Manchester Plant UK with occasional European travel.
May require working outside of normal business hours including weekends and shift work
Operation of process equipment is necessary
